The short version

Use it for anything you like, including commercial work. It is free and offered as-is, with no guarantee that it will work or stay available. Your files stay yours — nothing is uploaded, so no rights over them could be claimed even if anyone wanted to. Do not try to break the site for other people.

What this service is

smaller.video is a static website that delivers a video compressor to your browser. All processing happens on your own device using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. There is no account, no subscription and no server-side processing of your media. The site is operated by Kyllian as a personal project; see the about page.

Your files and your rights

You keep every right you already had in the video you compress. This service claims no licence, ownership or interest in your content, and could not exercise one in any case, because your file is never transmitted to it. See the privacy policy for the detail.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the site to process material you do not have the right to process.
  • Attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the servers that host it.
  • Redistribute the site as your own service, or misrepresent who operates it.

Whether a given video may be lawfully compressed, stored or shared is your responsibility. Nothing here is legal advice.

No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. Video encoding is complex and browsers differ: an encode may fail, run out of memory, or produce output you are not happy with. Always keep your original file until you have checked the result.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site, including lost, corrupted or unusable video files, lost time, or lost revenue. This is a free tool run by one person; use it accordingly and keep backups.

Availability and changes

There is no uptime commitment. The site may change, break, or be taken offline at any time without notice. These terms may be updated; the date at the top of the page reflects the current version, and continuing to use the site means the current version applies.

Third-party software

The compressor is built on FFmpeg via ffmpeg.wasm, which are distributed under their own licences. Those licences govern that software; these terms cover only your use of this website.
